It’s Fight Night in Vegas!
Undisputed Minimumweight Champion Seniesa “Superbad” Estrada (24-0, 9 KOs) will defend her belts tonight against Argentina’s Leonela Yudica (19-1-3, 1 KO) at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.
Estrada currently holds the WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine belts - she was hoping for a match up with the WBO/IBF Unified Champion Yokasta Valle with all belts on the line, but despite a good amount of social media back and forth, the fight didn’t materialize.
This opened the door for challenger Leonela Yudica, who previously held the IBF Lightweight title, defending it 10 times over 8 years before ultimately losing it to Arely Mucino in a close split decision. While her sole fight in the US ended in a loss, Yudica feels that Estrada and her team have underestimated her - she feels she won’t be just a stepping stone for Estrada in her quest to fight Valle.
For Estrada’s part, it seems she does see this fight as a tune up for her eventual unification fight. Speaking to BoxingScene.com she said:
“I’m glad that I’m still able to get in there and defend my titles and stay busy. I will be able to be at my best.”
But you can never count out an underdog, and this underestimation might be the key Yudica needs for an upset. I don’t think so, but I like to be proven wrong.
I’ll be watching this fight tonight, so if you want to join me tune into ESPN+ at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT!
